Books We Reviewed

We reviewed this book in both July and August of 2013.  We loved a lot of the ideas Ms. Sandberg discussed about women needed to be confident and empowered.  I suggest learning about the Howard/Heidi study and reviewing the information about negotiation.  (One of our group members confidently negotiated a higher salary after reading this book!)
Although it made us want to run off and be a business tycoon in one respect, the lure stopped after reading about Ms. Sandberg's schedule.  I think most of us aren't willing to be apart from kids as much as she is required to, but we think it is awesome she is conquering so much.

We have reviewed Robert Kiyosaki's books a number of times over the years.  Some of our favorite ideas for teaching kids about money come from his stories of playing Monopoly as a kid.  Some of us have gotten into real estate after reading this book and others with the help of many of his techniques.

Gretchen Rubin has so many fun ideas on creating happiness in your life. We love that she is a mother like we are. We loved that she did not succeed all the time with every goal she set. We especially love the chapter on happiness and money. Do you think the two mix? She has some fun ideas on how we can actually bring ourselves a little happiness with money.

An absolute classic! Susan presented this book in February 2010. It is a great read about who the rich in America really are. It was also very motivating for me personally to be proud of "Not keeping up with the Joneses." After reading this I tried convincing Sonny to get rid of my Escalade and get me something American made. (Most millionaires drive Ford trucks or other practical cars.)

Love this one.  Suze Orman has a lot of great advice. We have enjoyed reviewing her information about Wills and Trusts and ETF's especially. In this book she motivates us all to stand up for what we can really afford. No more crazy Christmas with all your extended family, no more checks for every newly married acquaintance. It is time to "Stand in Your Truth."

We reviewed this great book in July of 2012. There were so many great stories and experiences that we could relate to our own lives and grow from. So quick and easy to read. We assigned everyone a story from someone in the book to share at the next meeting, it was an easy, quick and motivating meeting.

If getting out of debt is your topic next month, this is the book for you. Wow. It was motivating. There is a great equation Dave Ramsey uses to help you find the right amount you need to save in order to have enough in retirement depending on your age. He is also passionate to listen to and read from. (I often listen to his radio program online while washing dishes and folding clothes.)

Lots of fantastic ideas here. I especially enjoyed the "comfort challenges". As women, we need to work on our confidence and negotiation skills and he has some fun ways to get us to "put ourselves out there".

What really motivates us? Daniel Pink did a great job helping us understand true motivation. It made me really look at why I do the things I do. I loved the idea that true happiness comes when we are in a state of "flow" and wondered as a mother when that was last.
